We are proud to share highlights from the AIMMLab AI Discovery Day, held in collaboration with The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences and the Vector Institute. The event welcomed students from Archbishop Denis O’Connor Catholic High School in Ajax for an engaging and inspiring day across Toronto’s AI ecosystem.
About the Visit
These Grades 9–12 students, part of ABLE — Aspiring Black Students Led by Excellence, spent the day engaging with researchers, exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming mathematics and healthcare, and gaining firsthand insight into future pathways in STEM.
AIMMLab Experience
The visit began at AIMMLab, where students met our Director, Prof. Jude Kong. Students were introduced to how AI can be applied to solve real-world challenges, with discussions highlighting the growing importance of agentic AI and the future of intelligent systems.

Fields Institute Visit
The group then visited the Fields Institute, where students explored how AI is making mathematics more accessible and contributing to progress on complex, long-standing problems. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Aaron Crighton for hosting and creating an engaging learning experience.
Vector Institute Engagement
The visit continued at the Vector Institute, where students were introduced to cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare. We are grateful to the distinguished speakers and hosts who shared their work and insights:
- Prof. Anna Goldenberg
- Prof. Rahul G. Krishnan
- Dr. Enamundram Naga Karthik
- Kaden McKeen

Impact and Vision
This experience extended beyond research exposure. It was an opportunity to help students recognize that artificial intelligence, mathematics, and science are spaces where they belong, can thrive, and can lead.
At AIMMLab, we believe that research leadership must also include educational leadership. Initiatives like AI Discovery Day reflect our commitment to building pathways for the next generation of innovators by connecting young people early to Canada’s AI community.
More than a visit, this event served as a reminder that the future of artificial intelligence must be inclusive, inspiring, and accessible.
Acknowledgements
We extend our sincere appreciation to Pamela Brittain, Morlan Washington (DCDSB), Amanda Ferneyhough, and Arber Kacollja, MBA for their support in making this event possible.
